Looking back on 2007 and ahead to 2008

It’s been a whole year, Unbelievable! Where did the time go? Many things happened over 2007. Teresa moved out and into her own place while working a full-time grown up job and going to school. She also bought her first car and got to say “so long” to the 16 year old Buick – granny car. I don’t know who was happier, Teresa to be rid of the car or the car to be rid of Teresa. Her new box was 26 miles to the gallon. It was her subtle way of supporting the troops. (When I have more energy, I'll tell you about our unusual year with cars.)

Steven continued to work at the airport and saved enough money to buy a new ride! I’m sure he bought it for the extraordinary gas economy, we don’t want to know how fast it goes. Steven also started college. He took his first two classes and did quite well. By the end of the year Steven was ready to move out and was gone by his 21st birthday.

Sean finished up his junior year with a trip to Europe. He visited Spain and France. And in true gamer spirit he spent almost his whole travel budget by the fourth day, on a single item…a sabre, handcrafted with carved dragons. He was quite disappointed to find out that before he even left the shop, it was packaged for international travel and customs, and he couldn’t open it until he was back home…almost 10 days later! Sean has a serious case of senioritis while he contemplates his future.

I finished 2006 by building 300+ feet of landscape berms and adding as many plants. I spent the last half of 2006 and the beginning of 2007 writing an enormous research paper for graduation. I finished my masters degree in social work by May 2007 and started a new career in a geriatric specialty field. Not what I expected to be doing, but it’s certainly a growing field!

Stan had one of his busiest years ever. He decided to end the year with a bang and spent 3 days at the infamous Parkland Hospital, you know, where Kennedy was taken. It was certainly an interesting day in the life of an immigrant, legal or not, and low-income resident of Dallas County. I was pan-handled by a passing patient in a hospital gown pushing an IV, while I was standing inside Stan’s plush county accommodations shared by his roommate of questionable character. Stan was later pan-handled in the elevator by a fellow patient, just trying to get enough money for a Big Mac. Logical choice for a man on the cardiac unit. Yes, there is a McDonald’s inside the county hospital, 5 floors straight down from the cardiac unit. Dr's gave Stan a clean bill of health for $17,500.00. And told him to stay away from all the foods he loves, which means he'll be seeing them again.

That’s a quick wrap-up of 2007. Enjoy the pics and stay in touch!
